Different types of carbon can differ in three different ways:

(1) The amount of ash they create

(2) The actual temperature they reach when the kiln displays a specific temperature

(3) How evenly they distribute the heat within the firing box.

This product is best at all three of these things.

Using standard test bars we have exhaustively tested MANY prime sources of coconut carbon and have settled on a single source of the best carbon formula for the needs of our customers who want to fire non silver as well as sliver metal clays that require carbon firing. While we don’t claim any magic for it, we DO claim reliable consistent results. *In extensive trials we have demonstrated that our simple recommended firing process will result in just a 4% charcoal consumption per firing when the most demanding copper clay temperatures of 1800ºF for 3 hours is used. The 4% consumption rate will be even lower when firing copper for 2 hours and even lower still when firing bronze clays for the even shorter times and lower temperatures recommended.
