Firing Enamels

Firing Enamels in a Speedfire™ ElectricMini™ - 1600 or PRO

The main differences between firing in a Speedfire™ ElectricMini™ (SFEM) and a standard front loading kiln are in opening and closing it and in how you regulate the temperature.

Rather than removing the top completely, simply tip the front of the kiln top open enough to slide the trivet in and out.

Temperature control on the SFEM PRO is simply a matter of entering the temperature you want and setting the dual mode control to “Ramp and Hold”.

The SFEM 1600 is a fixed temperature device. It can be used closed for flux firings on copper (see special notes on enameling copper), but otherwise it should be propped slightly open to keep the temperature lower. A small strip of fiberboard 6” x 1” x ¼” can be laid flat across the front of the base as a prop.

Firing enamels in the SFEM 1800 is not recommended.
