This kit takes the guesswork out of making domes and pillow beads by creating perfect domes for a perfect fit every time. Now it's possible to match the sides of a variety of shapes in just a few easy steps.

Say goodbye to imperfect doming over the back of a spoon!

Developed by Janet Alexander, this kit was born out of frustration with existing methods and will open up a world of possibilities for metal clay artisans from beginner to advanced. This kit is perfect for use with polymer clay, as well. Leave the clay on the brass plates and put them directly into the oven!

Set includes 3 brass domes and 4 plastic cutting templates.
Dome sizes range from 19mm (side length) to 38mm (side length).

Creating With the Perfect-Match Doming Kit

Roll your metal clay with or without a texture to your desired thickness, recommended two cards thick or more.
Lubricate the brass dome.
Drape clay over the dome, patting it against the plate to remove any air pockets.
Choose a matching template.
For a pillow bead, choose a template slightly larger than the dome so that the cutting edge is on the flat surface away from the domed area.
When making a domed item, choose a template the same size or smaller than the domed area.
Place the clear template on top of clay, lining its outside edges up with the brass plate’s outside edges.
Cut out the shape by tracing around the template using the Perfect-Match Pin Tool.
Place the dome with clay in a dehydrator or on a cup warmer to dry for five minutes.
Remove the clay from the dome and dry completely.
When making a pillow bead, repeat the process to make the other side of the bead.
Apply paste/slip to the edges of both dry pieces and press together.
Dry completely.
Make an opening for hanging the bead.
Fire in a kiln per the manufacturer’s instructions.

NOTE: A hole must be made into the hollow part of the bead before firing.

Janet is an accomplished metal artist. Her work has been shown in museums across Texas and published in several books and magazines.

She has over 38 years experience in metal arts as a bench jeweler, designer, and instructor. Janet is a nationally-known jewelry instructor, teaching at conventions, and bead shows.

Janet has a BFA in metals from the University of North Texas and has studied metal working with several Master Jewelers. She serves as Senior Instructor and the Technical Advisor for PMCC.
