SpeedFire Metal Clay PreFire Cone

Use this cone to burn the binder in base metal clays ("pre-fire"), before firing them in the kiln for full sintering. By increasing the heat and improving the heat circulation, the cone makes it possible to pre-fire the pieces on a simple kitchen stove (no need for a camping stove unless you don't have a gas stove!). Fill a stainless steel mixing bowl, the size that fits in your kiln, with about one inch of carbon and lay your dry pieces on top of it. Place the bowl on a medium burner and cover it with the cone. Leave the burner on until the smoke stops coming out of the top of the cone and the pieces look all black. The pieces are now ready for the kiln. Cover them with another inch of carbon and fire them in the kiln following the manufacturer's instructions. Depending on the size of the pieces, the pre-firing should last between 15-40 minutes.
