Each stainless steel container includes a correctly sized lid and our best carbon.  The largest of the four containers will fit in the SFEM and it needs to be placed in the center of the base.  To keep the container from touching the sides of the kiln, the kiln should be lowered directly downward - use the kiln sides and the base sides as a guide.  The tab on the container needs to be pointed towards a corner.

We have found in test firing that at least a 1/4" of "head room" should be allowed between the top carbon layer in the container and the underside of the lid.  Use of the lid will also minimize carbon consumption to about 3% per firing.  Once the container is cool, you can remove the lid and gently blow the very thin ash layer away.  In testing we didn't even bother with this and simply stirred the ash into the mix.

While we do not recommend removing these containers while they are hot we have provided a tab that can be gripped with a plier.  Wear protective gloves to avoid burns.

PLEASE NOTE - Being a stainless product the containers will "shed" tiny carbon flakes during firing.  This effect will diminish over time as the containers are used.  The particles are NOT harmful to anything and can simply be swept off the shelf into the trash with a paint brush or a dry cloth or dust vacuumed off.
