Our Fiber Firing Container is made of rigidized ceramic fiber. Unlike stainless steel containers, it will not flake during firing and leave behind the typical messy black speck residue. Carbon firing is required for bronze and most copper clays, as well as PMC Pro clay. While stainless steel containers still have their uses due to the variety of sizes, our fiber firing container is a great (and clean) alternative!

INSTRUCTIONS - Firing with the Fiber Container

 Follow clay manufacturer’s instructions as to type and amount of carbon, as well as placement of your piece. NOTE: The manufacturer of the Fiber Container recommends an alternative firing method of firing without the lid and 25° F cooler than specified for the clay type. Container should be removed from the kiln immediately upon completion of the firing cycle.

To extend the life of your container, we recommend that you do no pick it up with tongs or anything sharp. Remove the hot container from your kiln using a large spatula or other flat fireproof tool. Alternatively, you can set the container on a shelf to fire and remove the entire shelf when desired.

The container is extremely efficient at holding heat. We recommend that you remove pieces from the box as soon as possible after firing until you are comfortable with how the box fires in your kiln and with each clay. You may also want to try firing with the lid off.

When the kiln has cooled for a short time, remove the container from the kiln, place on a fireproof surface, and remove the lid. While the carbon is cooling, stir a few times to cool the carbon more quickly. Note: Carbon allowed to cool naturally in a closed container may burn completely away.

Storage and Care: Handle carefully. Store in a dry area and avoid unnecessary disturbance of product.  Do not use compressed air for clean-up.

Made from Pyrolite (Vitreous Aluminosilicate Fiber).

A Note About Firing PMC PRO:  
No matter which firing method or which type of container you use to fire PMC PRO, it is critical that the temperature not exceed 1425 degrees F. Be sure your kiln is properly calibrated and do a test firing before you fire a finished piece. We recommend firing with the lid off the container for PMC PRO.
