One of the difficult parts of selling your metal clay artwork, is figuring out how to price your creations.

Being aware of the hard costs of your art gives you a great starting point to price it accurately for resale!  Material costs are a big factor when deciding how to price your work.  It is very easy to cost items like findings, chain, gems, etc.  When it comes to metal clay, it is a bit harder unless you pre-measure your clay before you start creating and doing that limits the creative process.  Weigh your metal clay creation using a ProScale to determine the weight of the clay used and multiply it by your cost per gram to establish the cost of the clay used.  Add this cost to that of your other findings and material costs then add this to the value you put on your time to determine your true cost basis.  The formula looks something like this:

HARD COSTS + (HOURLY RATE x HOURS SPENT ) = PRICE

NOTE: If you have scrap from the project that can be used on a new project then you can deduct it for the total cost of the current project.  If not, then be sure to include it in the current project cost.
