QuikArt Struve Test Bar Template

The quality of your firing is critical to the value of your creations! The QuikArt Struve Test Bar Template creates the standard 1/2" x 1-1/2" test strips used in combination with 5 card thick (about 1.5mm) metal clay. Make sure test strips are bone dry and that the long edges are smooth and free of notching. Fire the test strips according to clay type instructions. The test is to bend a fired test strip at a sharp 90 degree angle. If it doesn't break or crack and does not blister in firing, then you have the correct firing conditions for that clay. If it breaks, increase temperature 25 degrees F. If it doesn't break, but blistering occurs, reduce temperature by 25 degrees F.

Note: It should only require one 25º change in either direction. It might take two. Any more than that could indicate a problem with the kiln.
