Firing Directions
Please follow the instructions given by the clay manufacturer for _firing each of the metal clay products.
The bronze _firing may have to be adjusted to each individual kiln since the new Bronzclay is quite
sensitive to _firing temperatures – too hot and it blisters – too cold and it breaks when bent due to
insufficient sintering. It is strongly recommended that you _fire a test piece before committing the
time and materials to making jewelry, since actual kiln temperatures can be off_ by 90°F (50°C) in either
direction from the temperature set on the kiln temperature controller.
Front loading kilns:
use lifter tool.
Top loading kilns:
use tongs.
Copper Clay:
let temperature drop from 1700 to 900 degrees. Open kiln door approximately one inch
until temperature drops down to 600F. At this time you may remove vessel from the kiln.
PMC Pro and BronzClay:
simply remove the lid and lift vessel out. The vessel can be taken directly from the kiln
and placed on a _reproof surface. Remove the lid and as the carbon is cooling, stir a few times to cool the
carbon more quickly. With a slotted spoon, remove the metal clay pieces and quench in water.
Using recommended directions, the ceramic vessel is guaranteed against thermal shock.

Disclaimer:
Although these firing vessels are virtually thermal shockproof, removing them from a kiln at temperatures while still red hot is NOT advised as there are risks involved. We don't want anyone to chance getting burned and want to avoid the risk of an accidental dropping and the consequences. From 1525˚F it only takes 45 minutes in a Paragon SC-2 to cool to 900˚F and only about 15 more minutes to cool to 600˚F.
Allow kiln temperature to drop to 900˚F
Open kiln door or lid approximately 1" until temperature reaches 600˚F
Remove vessel if desired - otherwise all to cool down.
When removing vessel at 600˚F from front loading kilns... Large vessel - use Pick-Up tool... Half and Quarter vessel - Use a metal spatula, tongs or both.
When removing vessel at 600˚F from top loading kilns use tongs
